Wishful Thinking

Coming up to the start of the new year most fisherman, including myself, start thinking of what could come of the new year and set targets for what they would like to catch. Setting a goal or list of fish you’d like to catch is a great idea, and makes it even more rewarding when you catch it. For my Summer holidays I have four fish in mind which I really want and will spend a lot of hours chasing.

First up is a BIG Swan River Mullowa, one bigger than my current Perth PB of 116cm and caught from my 4 metre Searano dinghy. So far they have eluded me this season in the river with countless nights spent fishing the deep holes and wrecks of the Swan. Last Summer I had a Perth Mulloway of any size on my goal list which was ticked off with a 14kg one off the A Shed in the Harbour using a live mullet. With a fully decked out Dinghy thanks to Searano Marine Malaga I hope to crack a 20kg plus river ghost.

Second on my Wishlist is a metro Macky over a metre in length, one species which I haven’t hooked in Perth waters for many years. By finding warm water close to shore trolling Halco Laser Pros and Max’s behind the Searano there is a good chance I could pick up one of these toothy’s while they are here over summer.

Another toothy critter on my list is  a Tiger Shark bigger than my current PB. A bit of gear upgrading with the help of Getaway Outdoors Balcatta will be helpful in doing this.

My final fish on my wishlist is a big Pink Snapper from my Searano dinghy. Drifting through the Cockburn Sound on dusk, dropping 5″ Madeye Paddle Prawns will be awesome fun on light gear. A pinky over 94cm is the goal.

These are the four fish I hope to catch over the Summer holidays. To any angler reading, setting yourself goals for the new year will help improve your fishing.
